Grand Theft Simulacra

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Anyone who has studied The Matrix appropriately, should know about the book Simulacra and Simulation. Written by Jean Baudrillard (RIP) it’s basic premise is that all our perceptions of reality are really perceptions of simulations, or bad copies of the original. Nothing is a better exampe of this situation than videogames. (more…)

Radio Taxi

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Recently, when listening to the Radiohead song “Creep”, the lyrics began to form an image. The premise of the song is a peculiar fellow liking a woman, but knowing that he doesn’t fit into the world. She becomes this embodiment of sanctity to him, and at the same time he describes his own imperfections. Now doesn’t this remind you of a movie character? (more…)

Ballet Digitale

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

A couple of years ago, I had the lucky opportunity to catch th film, Passage à l’acte. Keep in mind, there’s nothing wrong with your internet connection or video card, that’s just how the movie is. For whatever reason, the entire thing blew my mind. It was made by the artist Martin Arnold. (more…)

Automaton

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Film is considered one of the more realistic arts. It’s not a painting, and it does more than a photograph because it has the added benefit of taking up time.

At the same time, Video Games are the only art form that can communicate with it’s audience. As much as Impressionism can capture a single moment, Video Games are the moment. If you talk to Robert DeNiro in a movie, he don’t talk back. That’s a major flaw in pseudo-realistic. At the same time, if you tell mario to move right, then mario move’s right. Real-time communication, sounds pretty realistic to me. (more…)

Girlfriend “Oh my god it’s 6:00AM!”
Lokier (eyes closed) “Goddamit….”

This is how the day began. Needed to hit San Diego early to anticipate traffic and parking issues. Going with Mocherz. He has too many tickets so we cannot take his car. I have no car. We take mothers car. We are talking and driving. Stop at a couple spots to get bFast but everything is closed. Get off at some exit with at least 20 Mexican’s standing on every corner. Getting stared at, feeling alien. Good way to start ComicCon. (more…)

Red Bull on the Road

Monday, August 27th, 2007

On a recent trip to Berkeley, I thought it would be good to have a couple of RedBull’s. This was all for science of course. The following is a documentary of the moments immediately after RedBull gestation on the road. If anything, it should be a warning to all of those who want to drink Redbull while wearing red/orange gloves. Let this be a lesson to you. (more…)

The Heinz Fiasco

July 7 - INSPIRATION

Today Elvis and me are grubadubbin at BJ’s. Looking at a Heinz bottle, I notice the tomato puree manufacturer is holding an advertising contest. The peculiar bit is their prize of exactly $57,000 dollars. We’re immediately confounded as to the meaning of these numbers. Is that all they have left? Are they fan’s of LOST? We joke about it, but after putting our food into Styrofloam, we both go home. (more…)
