Shooting

I enjoy making films. These may not always consist of shot footage, and are often times shot, edited and refined entirely within the computer.

Sounding a conical wind instrument by self activaction

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

This past April, much to my joy and excitement, Direction was screened at the PFA in Berkeley. After the showing and Q&A, I was approached by Michael Guillen to answer a couple questions and talk a bit about the process of making the film. Apparently this qualifies as an Interview. Definitely a first. You can read my arrogance at his film blog, The Evening Class.

“Escape from Aztlan” finished

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

First there was National Novel Writing Month, and now I finished my first feature length for April’s ‘Script Frenzy‘ marathon. I think this is actually a story I can really get behind and make. I’ll be going through a couple rewrites and maybe rework some things. I’d like to first create a comic-book/storyboard version, that way I can better visualize the story. Things are getting exciting, let’s see where it goes. Woo!!

Script Frenzy

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

A few month’s ago, I joined in the fricassee of the National Novel Writing Month and managed to sweat out a very satisfying little book. I got to work a bit on my writing chops and learned a good deal from the others on the site’s forum. Yet, the thing that stuck with me most is how well I work under a deadline, even if it’s “just for fun”.

As such, I jump back into the fray for April’s Script Frenzy screen writing event. (more…)

‘Direction’ accepted to screening at Pacific Film Archives

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

A short film I made in 2006, Direction, has been accepted into a screening at the Pacific Film Archives in Berkeley. The show entitled “We are Cinema” runs Wednesday, April 9th. This is the second time one of my films runs at the PFA. In 2005, Automaton was also accepted into a screening entitled “Radical Drifts“. There’s no prize money or anything like that, but it’s just the motivation I needed to keep working on stuff for a while. The screening order can be seen below. (more…)

Man Vs. Animal - Eating Challenge

I challenged my cat to an eating contest.  I’ve been challenging it at jumping up high in the air, biting and other things, but he keeps winning.  Damned if he isn’t a high jumper.  But this time I won’t be beat.  I set the two plates down at about the same time and then the contest was on.  I ate a burrito, he ate kibble.  You may say I won by forfeit.  I don’t care, that stupid cat ate my dust.  Oh, I also recorded the contest for posterity. Ive been working on and off on this story for the better part of this year. The problem is, I’ve never been satisfied with the ending. So, I’ve decided to just start shooting what I have and releasing it in portions. It is my hope that this story unfolds on at least a monthly basis, with more of the background being explained as time goes on. (more…)

Old Nintendo in 3D

One of the greatest effects in film, is the bluescreen effect. The problem is, any slight change in shading of the blue screen causes distortion and makes it look just ugly. At the same time, 8 bit games were just that, 8 bits. Their colors are very simplistic and let bluescreen easily be done. Mixed with 3D technology like the kind found in After Effects also helps flat Nintendo graphics get better dimension. Here at Edraid, we would take advantage of all of these new technologies. Direction

Many moons ago, we here at Edraid embarked on a film that would change the way people thought about weird films made for no money and with not much else. More moons after that, with multiple visits to the hospital and carpal tunnel syndrome on our hands, the film was done. This film was Direction. (more…)

Spotting a drunk

Those of you who know me, know I’m very scientific. Obviously. So, in an attempt to decipher exactly what makes a drunk, and what one must do when dealing with a drunk, I got a volunteer to get his russian vodka drink on. It wasn’t too difficult to find volunteers. After hours of clinical drinking and organized shenanigans, the experiment was begun. (more…)

A Tribute to Baudel

Friday, September 14th, 2007

As little doe eyed kids wandering around in Mexico, Mocherz and myself would never forget our first encounter with Baudel. Baudel was a young Mexican boy who was clearly out of his mind. On a trip to Aguas Calientes, he pushed Mocherz into the hot springs and burned half of his body. Scarring him horribly. Later, he got into a huge fist fight with my other brother with both of them ending bloodied and half-alive. (more…)

Pulp Fiction reduced (and in order)

Part of the appeal of Pulp Fiction has been the fact that the story unfolds out of order, and the snappy dialog that the characters use in the movie. Yet, a question that I have always asked is whether this is the only appeal of the movie. In other words, would the film still be watchable if it were in order and with allot less dialogue?

So, I took footage of the movie and attempted to see if this was the only appeal. The film has been reedited below. It is in order, and only the crucial dialog has been left in. The film itself is little over 20 minutes. (more…)
