Santa Fe Springs Swap Meet
March 11th, 2008
You wake up sleepily on a Saturday morning and feel like getting the day started right. It’s too early for the beach and too late for a morning hike. You’re somewhere in LA and have $3-$10 at your disposal. How’s about a Swap Meet. You think of Cypress, too far, Rose Bowl, only once a month. Let me help you out. Get on the 5 freeway and exit Alondra. Pay your $.75 entry fee, grab yourself a beer and come see the wonder that is the Santa Fe Springs Swap meet.
At the entrance you will see the traditional Drive-In projection wall, with two real Palm trees superimposed over two painted ones. At the entrance, you pay your fee and make your way towards the center. Here the beer fountains pour regular and mega sized beers while a random band (funk, punk, banda) rocks out on stage. It’s about 10am and you’ve already started your day with a beer, a band and a swap meet. Already your doing good, but it get’s better.
You see a sign, and realize that you could have been rocking out here since last night. Yes, my friends, the Santa Fe Springs Swap Meet is one of those Friday Night hangouts.
Ok, now for some shopping. Hey, what about some fun shirts for your baby cousin!
Looking for some furniture but don’t know if it would look good in your living room? Come look at the SFS Swap Meet Display Room.
Know one of those kids who are too young to be gangsters, but to old for traditional Cartoon fare? Various selections to choose from.
What about that religious person in your life? All ethnicities covered!
Yes, Santa Fe Springs Mall really has a little of something for everyone.
Now you can go home satisfied that you’ve squeezed in a whole weekend of fun into two or three hours.

I was totally thinking this was like an El Chavo photo essay. Well done.
Things have really changed. The last time I went to a swap meet (Vineland Swap Meet in La Puente), they didn’t have beer or bands. We used to get fruit and vegetables there as well as fabric. I hated not having any place to sit or a respite from the sun.
